After reading chapter 1 and watching the videos in the above section, what do you understand Psychology to be all about? A: A. The Psychodynamic perspective is based upon Freund’s theory that the unconscious basically rules the way that we live. They believe that as we develop in early childhood, the experiences that we have shape our behavior and personalities. These experiences also add to what happens in our unconscious. The unconscious is what holds all of our primitive drives and instincts. This is what our body runs off of but we don’t see it play out as much. (Page 8 &9) B. According to the psychodynamic perspective, a person can get depressed because of things that happened during their childhood. They basically say that the source of all of our problems can be traced back to our childhood. (Page 8 &9) 9. A: A. The Humanistic Perspective is a school that believes, unlike the Psychodynamic Perspective, that the study of psychology should focus in on only the conscious experiences. They believe that we should only study and read into the behaviors that we can see, even if they can’t be measured. (Page 9 & 10) B. A: A. The cognitive perspective believes that the study of psychology should be based on mental processes like learning, the use of language and solving problems. They believe that the study of these things in a person can open up a window to how they think and how that act. Though you cannot directly observe how a person thinks, they can map out how they think a person use their brains in different situations. (Page 10) B. This perspective believes that you can get depression from the way that you think. If you think negative thoughts, then they will get wired into your brain and become part of who you are.
