The movie that I chose was “Apocalypse Now”. This movie is casted by Marlon Brando, Robert Duvall, Martin Sheen and many others. This movie can be related to what we are learning in Cold War. Apocalypse Now is a 1979 war film. This movie revolves around Captain Benjamin L. Willard on a secret mission to assassinate Colonel Kurtz. At the beginning of this movie, Benjamin Willard completed one tour of the duty in Vietnam and went back home a changed person with miserable life. He then returned to Vietnam to fight for his country again. This is related to our class because this movie deals with the Vietnam War. During the Vietnam War, Colonel Walter Kurtz went insane and command his troops inside the neutral Cambodia. After the battles, Willard slowly starts to become more and more like the man that he was trying to find and kill(Colonel Kurtz). This foreshadows the aftermath of the soldiers that were in Vietnam War. Soldiers that came back after the war, we terrified of the war and they were different. They had flashback and negative effect on them. The theme of Apocalypse Now spots the effects on the Vietnam War veterans. It spotlights the ironies that were in the Vietnam War. The filmmakers were trying to show that war can ruin many lives even if they survive. War is a conflict between two nations. During the Vietnam War, lots of soldiers lost their lives and those who did not definitely lost their hope. Those who survived were very different from those before the war. They had bad dreams and they were struggling to live their life after the destruction caused in Vietnam. The filmmakers were successful of what they were trying to tell. They demonstrate the movie with great enthusiasm which helped us understand what was going thru the soldiers
