Apple’s Absurd Greed for Money and Power Apple is the dominant company in the tech world but they have stepped over their boundaries. It would be hard for anyone who isn’t a nun to restrain from overstepping those boundaries and almost scamming the consumer that brought Apple to the tech giant they are today. Apple needed to be ferocious to become the company they are in such a short period of time. Apple became Apple so quickly it took the world by surprise. However, now that Apple has a firm grip on the tech industry they don’t need their margins to be so big; they don’t need to change things ever new phone model just to make a little more money. They keep on changing the products in ways so that people who have their product can’t use past accessories. Apple is taking out the audio jack to “save space” but now consumers have to buy their headphones. BRG says, “200,000 people have already signed a petition asking Apple to keep the 3.5mm audio port” (Smith). Apple changed their charger to also “save space” but now people have to buy their new charger. It seems as if Apple is more concerned about how thin their phone is and how much money they make rather than how satisfied their customers are. Apple is always changing the size and the shape of their phones so consumers have to buy new cases for each phone they get. Apple’s iTunes virtual music app takes a lot of earnings while only giving very little to the artist. “Artists get nine cents for each individual song downloaded on Napster and iTunes. To put that into perspective, musicians need to sell 12,399 songs a month to earn a salary equal to a McDonald’s employee” (lipbgy). The platform iTunes itself isn’t worth all of the earning they get music bought on it. The artist should be making more money considering that they are the only ones doing the constant work. The real kicker that really solidifies Apple’s greed in this category is that Apple makes the artist pay an initial fee for artist to have their music on iTunes, which eventually makes more money for Apple in the long run.
