In Search of April Raintree/essay The life of April Raintree, her family and culture. She was very young when she was taken from her family and had to grow up in foster care till she was old enough to care for herself, not having the life she so wanted. April had two sisters that were also put into care, they both died. April struggled with her background of having drunkard parents, her identity and being Metis. She was a quiet person that didn’t like conflict and seemed to always get into situations of being abused for no apparent reason. April always knew she was Metis, she struggled with the fact that people like her were not accepted in white society. She had it in her head she wanted to be white and live the luxurious life of being rich like white people she admired lived. April hid being Metis whenever she could, because she was ashamed of the way her people lived their lives. It was hard for her to accept that her sister Cheryl was dark skinned but she loved her sister and would do anything for her, Cheryl was all April had for family. “When I get free from being a foster child, then I would live just like a white person” …show more content…

Quickly she became there personal slave and to avoid conflict she did as they asked. Cheryl eventually came to live at the home April was at, April was happy she was there but she didn’t want her to experience what she has went through being there. Not long after Cheryl is sent to live with another family, April is lonely again and their parents stop visiting
