Once upon a time, there was a prophet named Jonah, he loved God with all his heart. One day, God told him to go to the great city of Nineveh and warn all the people there that God knew how wicked they were and that they must change. But, Jonah did not want to warn the people of Nineveh. Instead, he attempted to flee by boarding a ship to Tarshish. However, God would not let him go so easily, he sent out a big storm over the sea that almost caused the ship to break! The sailors on the ship went into a panic, throwing cargo off their boat to lighten the load and praying to their gods. I worship the God of heaven who made both the sea and dry land. But, I am trying to get away from him.” The men asked Jonah, “What should we do to calm the sea?” Jonah replied, “Pick me up and throw me into the sea then, the sea will be calm for you because I know the storm is my fault.” The sailors reluctantly threw Jonah into the sea and the sea calmed down. God sent a great fish to swim by Jonah and swallow him. Jonah spent three days in the fish praying to God. He vowed to God that he would go to Nineveh and warn the people so, God commanded the fish to release Jonah. When Jonah got to Nineveh he warned the people saying, “In forty days God will destroy Nineveh! Give up your evil ways!” The people of Nineveh believed in God’s power and gave up their evil ways. When God saw that they had turned from their evil ways he relented and did not destroy Nineveh. But, Jonah was not happy, he wanted God to punish the people for their evil ways even though they had changed. God then made a plant grow over Jonah to shade him from the sun while he sat on the
