Arc 281 Essay

1557 Words7 Pages

Arc 281 is a course that provides an overview of essential form as well as cultural and environmental issues related to architecture and architectural disciplinary. It emphasizes on two and three dimensional compositions, organization strategies and the basic arrangements of spatial configuration. Furthermore it examines the effect of light, ventilation, weather, and spatial experience in an inbuilt environment with a focus on building forms and interiors that incorporate a precise response to environment conditions. Arc 281 is markedly connected to foundations and ARC 201 in many ways such as design principles, spatial configuration and etc. Additionally it helps strengthen our understanding of the fundamental principles that may not be visible to the eyes directly, but they’re existence bring value and excitement to architecture.

All those principles were touched upon during that project but weren’t discussed as thoroughly. In Ac 281, most design principles were discussed deeply with a clear understanding of the different types each principle holds and the effect it provides in a composition. Moreover, unlike foundations, in Arc 281 we related them to plans, buildings and diagrams all of which helped in elaborating the understanding and functions of each principle. Principles were a major part of foundation projects, such as kit of parts. A series of explorations of three dimension systems of organization and space making were accomplished which allowed further investigation of issues that deal with density, continuity, balance, symmetry, movement, and transition between planes. As we reached the 5 alteration of kit of parts, we explored issues such as additive/subtractive, solid/void, positive/negative and joints. All these were also covered in Arc 281 much thoroughly but were open to us in foundation nevertheless. These were all examples of our fall semester. In the
