Archimedes Accomplishments

Archimedes was an Greek mathematician in the third century b.c.e.. He was mostly known for his book called The Method. In this book he wrote down his thoughts of how he was able to solve some of the most complex math problems, which changed the world. The book was lost for many centuries. Then a family claimed to have an old scripture and sure enough it was the book of Archimedes. It was sold at auction for two million dollars and the buyer remains anonymous. He then gave the book to a group of people who are uncovering the secrets of Archimedes. Now let's get a little back story of Archimedes.
Archimedes lived on the island of Sicilla where he lived in the city-state Siracusa. When he grew older his father sent him to study in at the time was the “Scholarly Center of the World.” This was in Alexandria, Egypt. While he was there he studied Aristotle, Plato, and Euclid. The king suspected that the crown he had gottens was made out of cheaper silver instead of gold. He gave the task to Archimedes to see if he was right. Archimedes was taking a bath one day and noticed was the farther he went in the more water that spilled out of the top of the tub. He realized this is how he could tell if the crown was made out of gold or silver. He later proved that the crown was made out of silver rather than gold. He was so excited they say that he jumped out of his bathtub and ran to the king's place naked. While he was running he was shouting “Eureka” which means I have found it. Then the king wanted to see what Archimedes could do with his knowledge. So Archimedes with a complex system of pulleys and levers pulled a ship onto shore all by himself.
