Are American students entitled, technology dependent, and/or seem to always disappoint you? In Scott Jaschik’s “Are American Students Lazy?” he addresses the thoughts and opinions about the laziness of American students compared to those who are from over seas stated by Karen Miller. This article goes into an overview of Millers perceptions about her American students.
In Scott Jaschik’s article “Are American Students Lazy,” Jaschik looks upon a Boston professor to answer why American students are lazier than foreign students. Many people agreed with Miller’s statement, however, few believed she didn’t give American students enough credit for their creativity. Foreign students are raised to be “obedient and diligent,” whereas American students are raised in their creative freedom. With the positive comments of the article came the bad, as some did not like the comments Miller had made about American students. A student at Babson, Lauren Garey, made it known that Miller is a liberal arts teacher and believes she was “overlooking the hard work of many American students.” In all, Miller believes that American students need a firmer discipline system, hoping for them to be more …show more content…

American students for the most part have to work at least one job in order to support themselves to pay for food, gas, study materials, and more, which ends up taking away the time from their studies. “My 'C,' 'D,' and 'F' students this semester are almost exclusively American, while my students from India, China, and Latin America have -- despite language barriers -- generally written solid papers, excelled on exams, and become valuable class participants," written by Miller (Jaschik). This insinuates that American students cannot even compare to students from other countries. American students would have the capability to excel in their classes if they were able to spent time entirely on their academic success. Foreign students do not have to focuses on working during their studies because they travel over to the United States only for the purpose of school on an educational visa, leaving them incapable to work since they are not
