Gender Stereotypes
Stereotypes are a belief or an idea of a particular group or thing. We witness or hear certain things about a person or thing, and now suddenly believe all people/things are like that. For example, someone has made this idea that men have to be the dominant independent gender, whereas for women, they have to be the submissive dependent gender. Women are taught that they are the physically and emotionally weaker gender. It’s normal for them to show their emotions because women are just “naturally” emotional. Some claim that they [females] can’t handle certain sports, like football, because we believe that females are too fragile, for the vicious sport. Males cannot like feminine things such as: makeup, dolls, etc. because they will be teased and will be called derogatory names like ‘faggot’. Some try and use ‘gay’ as an insult as well. I believe that if a man wants to be very masculine, (Zac Effron) that is his choice. He is not any more of a man than a male who chooses to wear makeup and is slightly more feminine than he is masculine. (Bretman Rock) Same goes for women; if a female chooses to stay within the stereotypical boundaries that a woman is supposed to be, that is all up to her.
