Gun control in Maryland
In the middle of a heated debate about gun control concerning the whole country, gun violence is rising in Maryland. Like a secret no one talks about, it is rising, sneaking around the view of the public. And while everyone is busy discussing the school shooting in Florida, and not getting anywhere in a debate which goes yes-no yes-no yes-no back and forth, Maryland is now the 32nd most violent state in the United States. We have to take action and instead of fighting each other with both words and guns we should stand together against gun violence to protect all the innocent lives in Maryland.

In comparison with the MD rate of 11.9, all the Scandinavian countries have much lower rates, all falling under 1.8 though with Finland up on 3.3. And to put it mildly, it is impossible to get a hold of guns in those Northern European countries. In Denmark you are only allowed to be in possession of a weapon (not including rifles, though that isn’t easy either) if you work in a field that requires the use of a weapon. In 2013, after the Sandy Hook shooting, the Firearm Safety Act was passed in Maryland, which limited authorization to own assault rifles, limited magazines, and required people to get fingerprinted and to go through training before purchasing a gun.
