Black History Month began as Negro History Week. Black History Month is in February. Black History Month is mostly celebrated inside the US, but they celebrate it in Canada. It is celebrated in October in the UK, Netherlands and Ireland. This month is where all the black creators of the world get recognized more than they have in the other months. This month tells you a little bit more about black creators and writers. In July of 1777, Vermont became the first colony to ban slavery. To add, the civil rights act made it illegal for black people to be denied service based on race, color, and religion or face segregation. Was Morgan Freeman at fault for saying that he thinks Black History Month is ridiculous, by saying this people are calling him an Uncle Tom. Freeman’s is saying that Black History Month is ridiculous. He is saying that Black History is American History. He said he doesn’t want to refer to people as “white” or “black”, he wants to refer to them as their name. I would agree with the statement of not referring to people as black or white. Referring to people as black or white will make this person feel like they aren't getting treated correctly. If you go up to a person and call them by their race, they will call you racist. An Uncle Tom is a slur used to disparage a black person who is humiliatingly subservient or deferential to white people. Which means it’s a black person who is defensive to white people. I do not agree with this statement because it doesn’t mean he is superior towards white people. It just means he looks at that statement differently. For example, if a different race liked another different race’s essay better, that wouldn’t mean that they are superior towards that race, they just think that that person did a better job than they did.
