Argumentative Essay On Cell Cancer

1039 Words5 Pages

Throughout history there have been many deadly diseases that have been cured and prevented using modern technology. Cancer is now the newest victim of this extraordinary and futuristic era. Cancer is a relatively common disease caused by an uncontrolled division of abnormal cells in a part of the body. Scientists and doctors have tried to discover a way to detect this disease earlier and create a safe treatment for numerous decades without success. Chemotherapy and radiotherapy have offered a bit of relief during the past few years but unfortunately, these expensive therapies can affect and destroy other healthy cells around the body. However, there might finally be an answer to this deadly riddle.Nanotechnology is the manipulation of matter …show more content…

However there is a possible way to reduce the problem. The majority of cell membranes have a negative charge, so nanoparticles with a positive charge will have less troubles entering a cell to deliver the chemotherapeutics but it will increase the possibility that they will bind to other cells. Instead scientists usually cover nanoparticles with polyethylene glycol (PEG). PEG is a neutrally charged molecule that reduces cell binding as well as phagocytic uptake and therefore increase the chances of the nanoparticles to reach their specific target. I believe a policy should be implemented that all nanoparticles should be coated with PEG to eliminate unwanted outcomes and scientists should continue to develop a way to ensure that the targeted drug release is always reliable.

Secondly, the ability to safely and consistently manufacture nanoparticles in large numbers with control over the chemical properties remains a major obstacle. Hundreds or even thousands of atoms are found inside a nanoparticle and there should be numerous policies that state that before nanotechnology is used, they should undergo tests to make sure it has been correctly manufactured and safe to
