Argumentative Essay On Epigenetics

441 Words2 Pages

Epigenetics influences our genes in many ways, some positive well others are negative. The debate “nature vs. nurture” is put to the test through twins, both twins have the same DNA, so why is it one twin could have asthma. Most of the differences between twins is Epigenetics. First off, epigenetics refers to heritable changes in gene expression that does not involve changes to the DNA sequence. Change is a natural and somewhat regular occurrence but can also be influenced by several factors. Some factors include age, lifestyle and disease. Epigenetics commonly manifest in several areas. These areas include skin cells, liver cells as well as brain cells, where some effects result in cancer. The field of epigenetics is quickly growing and with …show more content…

There about six linear feet DNA in each cell, Dna is wrapped around histone, there are about 30 million in our cells. This presents a problem, dna accessibility, the cell can’t access information. Epigenetics solves this problem, it is a set of instructions that sits ontop of our cromition. It helps instruct it whether to compact or noncompact and helps read the DNA. It helps turn the DNA on and accessible. Epigenetic instructions tells DNA when to turn on and off and help the cells become very different. Much of this happens during our development. As our cells began to divide, then our cells began to get epigenetic marks, leading our cells to differ. The epigenetic marks can be influenced by its environment. Stress, smoking or the foods the mother eats can influence the fetus’s cells. IT can affect the health and appearance in the offspring. Woman who don't eat well can have children who are more successible to obesity and other health conditions. This is thought to be influenced by Epigenetics. It isn't just from mother to baby it can be passed down through generations if the marks are present in the sperm or
