Dean Gaylord According to our textbook, In the US whites hold a significant advantage in health and longevity. The life expectancy for whites is averaged at 79.0 years compared with African Americans at 75.3. Those statistics were provided in the textbook by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2012c. The textbook also talked about how during Bill Clintons presidency David Satcher a surgeon made the reduction of health disparities by race one of his primary goals.
For example, older African American experience higher rates of type 2 diabetes than their white counterparts. Also, Latina women have higher mortality from cervical and uterine cancers than white women.
Health and education are the foundation for human development. Investing in education would help reduce health inequalities and poverty, because it enables people to get jobs and get more and better quality health care. Investing in nutrition should be an important measure to
Last week I obtained knowledge on the history of medicine. Specifically, I learned how African Americans played an essential role in the history of medicine. Prior to last week I was not well-versed in the history of medicine. However, I was knowledgeable on how African Americans slaves were used for medical research. Slaves were the test subjects for various revered doctors at that time.
Children and young people may have poor nutrition, which can impact physical and psychological development leading to difficulties in maintaining or developing healthy relationships. It can correlate back to food insecure children who lack physical fitness, if a child does not feel comfortable in their body, maybe because their rib cage pokes out more than a child who is raised in a food secure home or maybe if they suffer from a chronic illness that enables to love their body and themselves due to the lack of food nutrition, they then lose confidence and exclude themselves from their peers. Children may also feel stigmatized, isolated, ashamed or embarrassed by their lack of food. As the “Effects of Poverty, Hunger and Homelessness on Children and Youth” also stated, “children who lack food are commonly known to become easily agitated, which makes it difficult for them to get along with their peers”. They may start slipping into bad influences such as alcohol, drugs, smoking, and early sexual activity. Some behavior problems that can results from child hunger “may include impulsiveness, aggression, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and conduct disorder” (Effects on Poverty).
Life expectancy is how long a person is expected based on the environment around them and previous lifespans within that country. This is a good demographic because it is important to take into account how long you will live. Food supply (kilocalories / person & day) is the total food supply the country has as a total divided by the population. Then, the amount of calories are recorded for how much every person SHOULD receive. Without food, the people will most likely starve to death at an early age.
“Health literacy is the degree to which individuals have the capacity to obtain, process, and understand basic health information and services needed to make appropriate health decisions.” (Healthy People, 2010) It includes knowing how to control with your own health and to benefit your own health through making informed health decisions, seeking appropriate treatments. Anyone can be health literate. Anyone at home, at school, work, or even the society as a whole.

Parizad Batty-Avari EYE11-4.1 Explain the impacts of poor diet on children's health and development Nutritious food is of paramount importance for a healthy mind and body. Childhood is a time of critical growth in which proper nutrition is absolutely necessary. Children who have poor diets either due of a lack of food or because of bad eating habits and patterns, leads to inadequate intake of nutrients and are prone to significant short-term and long-term health impacts and diseases. Short-term impact on children’s health:
It is reflective of a country’s net welfare position and circumstances that exist in that country. Life expectancy is associated with socio-economic and economic factors like income, the level of health care, education, sanitation, and other factors such as the availability of clean water, disease and crime. As Mahfuz Kabir (2008) puts it, life expectancy is a function of economic factors and non-economic factors. Based on this assumption, a country life expectancy then becomes dependent on the quality of the combination of factors that exist within that country. The

The life expectancy in developed countries is different from developing countries. The life expectancy in developed countries is higher than developing countries. ROL Health and nutrition are the most essential determinants for an optimal human development and good nutrition is the vital unit for maintenance of positive health. It is noticed that a proper diet is needed from the early stages of life for growth, development and for an active life. The initial period of life between 1 – 3 years is crucial for brain development and which can be very well hindered by malnutrition. It is also seen to have a negative impact on the economic growth and later affects the overall productivity of the individual. Furthermore, malnutrition leads to morbidity and mortality in 0-6 year’s age group which thereby leads increased healthcare expenditure and disease burden.
So, eating different sources of food with different nutrition will influence the body health that related to human daily life and
