When people think of children, images of innocence and love flood their minds. Sadly, not all children get to experience love. The foster system was created to place minors into a state certified home. Individuals may know what foster care is, but many are unaware of what goes on in the system. Due to unfortunate circumstances, foster children’s lives are in the hands of a new guardian and grow up depending on the system. Unfortunately, the Foster care system has failed them in many ways. The support that the children need and required are not where it needs to be. The lives of these children go from bad to worse because of this broken system. The way matters are handled in the foster care system fail the children because awareness is not brought to the public's’ attention. As of 2015 an average 428,000 children were placed in the foster system. Seventy-two point nine percent die of negligence and forty-three point nine die from physical abuse. The government will argue that the foster care system is effective and beneficial because they provided long-term care to these children. They also argue how the reports made by the state’s child welfare agencies show little to no signs of abuse in the foster care system. Social workers fail to hold the foster parent accountable because they are not required by the state to follow up or maintain a frequent connection. They also fail to show that most caseworkers need additional training in order to support the child adequately because reports are not consistent to the child's current living condition. Social workers already act as an agent to hold caretakers accountable in the best interest of foster children however, they lack training, regulation, and commit fraudulent reports as is. Who is to say a third party organization would be as effective in holding caseworkers and foster parents
