Over one hundred years, the National Park Service (NPS) has ensured their mission to protect and conserve the nation’s parks, monuments, and historical sites. The NPS has fought to keep these historical sites safe, and now the government has proposed a significant budget cut to the their cause. In doing so, the NPS is struggling to keep these important sites safe so it is time for our nation to stand up and make it their priority to help them. The government may believe that these historical sites are not worth the time and money, but does that mean the nation should agree? The nation needs to recognize these monuments, historical sites, and parks tell a story and should be protected at all cost. According to Linda J. Bilmes and John Loomis in their article “ Americans Think National Parks Are Worth Way More than We Spend On Them”, They state “ ...in order to thrive, the national park system needs a new funding model and a more flexible funding structure”. In this quote from their article, They are sharing important information that provides the nation with the truth. They let their readers know that without a better funding model these historical sites will not thrive. These places are more than just another location; They are what makes america who she is today. WIthout these monuments, how will future generations learn about the place they call home and how will they learn about the struggle it took to get there? The nation should prioritize in protecting what people have left of their past. Not only should the nation protect these monuments but americans should to.
