In the United States we have a problem with poverty and specifically how that correlates to medicaid. Under Barack Obama his administration created the Affordable Care Act which allowed for families who were unable to pay for their own medical costs have coverage for them and their families. Families are suffering more than necessary when it comes to poverty and were putting themselves at risk because they couldn’t afford to go the doctor so they remained ill. The Affordable Care Act was enacted to fix this but with Donald Trump winning the election this could all change and put poor families back into their previous situations of struggling with health care. The Trump administration is attempting to pass legislation in congress that would repeal the Affordable Care Act also known as Obamacare so far they have not been successful. Too many people are living without health insurance coverage. This issue is causing unnecessary health problems because many individuals will not see the doctor for fear of an extreme expense. This universal system would also address the large number of people who go bankrupt because of the high premiums charged by individual companies and high costs of life saving medical procedures and drugs. We spend almost twice as much as other industrialized countries but still have over forty-million Americans who have no health insurance. Under the single payer system less money would be spent on billing and administrative costs. People would be able to safely live their lives without worry of losing everything for a life saving procedure or drug. Furthermore the proposed single payer plan would allow businesses to grow because they would no longer have to worry about the expensive payments made to insurance companies to cover their employees. America needs a single payer
