The modern United States is a progressive nation, as the government seeks to improve the problems that each citizen faces, such as healthcare, global warming, and gun safety. In 2010, President Obama signed the Affordable Care Act into law, emphasizing the importance of every person having access to healthcare no matter their socio-economic class. Healthcare is expensive, and to make sure that all Americans have it, the government requires that every person has a healthcare plan, or they have to pay a fine. Healthcare is affordable because the government requires that any company that is part of Obamacare to charge their customers less. Healthcare has not only been a progressive law recently, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has been a running government program for years. To combat this, the government has laws and restrictions on factories in the US to ensure that they don’t harm the environment by making their products. First, there is only a certain amount of pollution a factory is allowed to release by government standards, or else the factory is not allowed to run until it meets the national standards. Not only is pollution and emission of greenhouse gasses an issue, but the pile-up of plastic products in landfills that take hundreds of years to decompose is another issue that the government is attempting to help fix. Local governments in select states and cities require customers to pay for the bags at checkout if they want to carry their item in the store paper or plastic bags.
