Student loan debt will be forgiven, as President Joseph Biden had stated. Authorities are considering their options carefully and contemplating the best course of action at this time. Student loans are loans that college students take out only to pay for their expenditures and textbooks. If they are canceled, the students won’t be required to pay back the whole amount they borrowed. Even if the government has the authority to erase loans, it ought to do the opposite and require students to pay the entire amount. It would be unjust and unethical to cancel student loan debt since it would be unfair to those who have previously repaid their loans in full without any forgiveness. The reason there even is a shortage is that teachers aren’t being paid enough, so with the help of student loan forgiveness, there will be an increase in the number of teachers available. If there are more teachers then the number of kids in each classroom will decrease, meaning teachers can pay more attention to their kids. It would be helpful for teachers, but there are other ways to fix the shortage. Student loan forgiveness would just make taxpayers pay off their debt. The 10k forgiveness plan includes “reducing debt loads for early-career teachers. By decreasing average monthly payments, as the president’s plan would do, the program would free up more of educators’ monthly income…” (Rudolph). More than half of the educators take out a loan of at least $23,000 just for education. Many of the teachers didn’t have a bachelor's degree in education, instead, they had a master’s degree in education. Even though a master’s degree costs more money, it was required for teachers to have at least a master’s degree. With the help of student loan forgiveness instead of teachers paying off their loans and cutting ends each month with whatever's left with their salary, their salary could increase, helping the shortage. Although there are benefits to student loan forgiveness, the only people who would need it are teachers.
