Technology, in the words of one of the most celebrated technology entrepreneurs we know, Steve Jobs, is a device which helps us invent the future instead of worrying about what happened yesterday. Technology fuels change. It pushes the world forward for the benefit of humankind. The emergence of computers, along with their inculcation into our daily lives has changed the meaning of words we use. There was a point in time where a “cookie” meant a baked delight or “bug” meant an insect. Those times are gone. The term “web” is now more frequently used to define the information system on the internet than it is to define a spider’s home.
In my opinion, the section of population most enticed by the term “technology”, is children. Any child today, regardless of financial strata or upbringing, is extremely enthusiastic about electronics. The kids from more affluent backgrounds want the latest gaming console, whereas the not so well-to-do get their kicks from the pink battery operated mobile phone that plays the Barbie song on repeat. If these children, who are not even aware that the functioning of their toys is a consequence of developed mechanization, are shown the endless possibilities that scientific know-how creates, they can bring about changes for generations to come.
