There are many television shows that focus on the fictional aspects of the world we live in. The Office is one of the shoes that expose the reality of the world we live in, in a very fictional way. The American adaptation of The Office was a great revamp of the UK version. The show is based around a paper company’s day to day life in the very-much real city of Scranton, Pennsylvania. Even with the show’s real location, there are many fictional elements to it. The whole concept of the show is very outlandish: the basis of the documentary is not entertaining, the characters don’t seem to have a life outside of the show, they are rarely seen working. Documentaries have been a big part of film culture because they shine light onto subjects that are often left in the dark. Audiences love documentaries because they often educate the viewer on something they’ve always wanted to know about. This if not the case for the recording of this documentary. The cameras are hardly ever turned on outside of work, yet you never seem to miss an important moment in their lives. The employees in The Office rarely do anything pertinent outside of their workplace. They barely even mention anyone that doesn’t work at Dunder Mifflin. The fact that they don’t have a life outside of work leads to some other unrealistic aspects of the documentary. They rarely meet with people outside of work and thus rarely seem to date out of work. Many of the main characters in the show end up dating multiple people from their own office in a span of less than 10 years.
