Do you like to watch the Olympics with friends and family? Perhaps you have watched basketball or track, but have you noticed that lacrosse isn’t a sport to watch? Well I believe you would enjoy seeing lacrosse as an Olympic sport. Lacrosse should be recognized as an Olympic sport. The sport will attract a lot of people worldwide and will interest people to watch it. Lacrosse players have been putting in work for their whole lives and putting them on the Olympic stage will give them the recognition they deserve in a sport that is growing exponentially. In the list of reasons made by Youth1, the author states, “Time to give credit where credit is due. Despite recent growth and surge in the sport’s popularity, professional lacrosse players continue to receive little recognition for the fact that they are world class athletes. The Olympics could help change that.” Lacrosse players have been working their hardest to get to the college and professional level and when asked what sport they play and they say lacrosse people don’t lose it like they would if it were a professional football player, they either say “I didn’t know lacrosse was a pro sport”, or “what's lacrosse?” . This makes players ashamed of even playing the sport or makes them upset that they aren’t getting the respect they deserve when they put in just as much work as football players or basketball players to get better at the sport they love. “skills in both hand eye coordination and speed. But I disagree, lacrosse has been the fastest growing sport in the USA, it has also been expanding worldwide with popularity. Kids in Africa have been playing lacrosse with what they have in view of the fact that its popularity has been spreading worldwide making the youth want to play the sport, giving it the potential to be a worldwide sport. In the article, Youth1 says, “It’s exploding in popularity. Lacrosse is currently the fastest growing sport at the NCAA level, and has been for the last six years.” Lacrosse is a sport that 10 years ago very few people even knew what it was, then a man named Paul Rabil made the game popular and made it what it is today. He created a new league 3 or 4 years ago and made it so that all players would get the utmost respect and made sure fans were there. The game has been growing for a while ever since colleges have started to get recognized for their lacrosse programs and people see how amazing the sport is and want to join it to be a part of a great loving community. “Within their respective genders, no sport has experienced greater growth than men’s or women’s lacrosse. The number of women’s lacrosse teams nearly doubled between 2003 and 2018, rising 97% from 256 to 505.
