Lacrosse is a growing sport throughout the United States being played by thousands of kids. Although lacrosse is an expensive sport people are willing to pay to play. It is the fastest game played on two feet which excites the fans. There are 250,000+ players across the nation and it is played at over 600 colleges and 2,000 high schools. A mixture of basketball, hockey, and soccer makes up this incredible sport. Lacrosse is a sport rapidly growing with many leagues and popularity. Lacrosse was a sport first named by the European settlers after coming across the Atlantic Ocean. Tribes in the Southeast, Western Great Lakes, and St. Lawrence Valley were the tribes who would usually play lacrosse. The game was originally called “stickball” by the …show more content…

Since then, Syracuse has gone on a winning spree winning ten National Championships, leading the nation. They are followed by the strong lacrosse program at Johns Hopkins who is just one Championship away from surpassing the Orange. Ever since the start of NCAA lacrosse program there have been many teams to join. The ACC is the dominant conference in today's day of lacrosse including Notre Dame, Duke, North Carolina, Syracuse, and Virginia. Dominating the game today the ACC has six teams in the top 20. The college game is played by over 70 different Division 1 schools. First and foremost there are ten players per team, three midfielders, three attackmen, three defensmen, and one goalie. There must be four players in the defensive zone and three in the offensive zone while the midfielders can roam the field. Games consist of four quarters and time varies depending on level of play. Between quarters there are two minute breaks and at half time it is a ten minute break. After halftime, the beginning of the game, and after goals there is a faceoff. How does a faceoff work? Two players go down and have their sticks down in the ground, the referee places the ball between the two sticks and blows his whistle.
