Food safety is a contentious issue that often puts corporations at loggerheads with the U.S government. In this regard, the key issues include the production, transportation, and sale of genetically modified organisms (GMOs) and non-organic foods. The federal government has structured various agencies, including the U.S. Department of Agriculture, as well as passed several laws, to help in dealing with these concerns. Unlike organic farming, the former uses chemical-based fertilizers, insecticides, herbicides, and other pest control measures to promote the yield of crops and their ability to withstand harsh conditions. Regarding animal husbandry, non-organic farming involves the use of antibiotics, growth hormones, and other chemicals to prevent diseases. Non-organic farming in heavily criticized because it is associated with the increase in the number of people contracting terminal illnesses, such as cancer (Misner and Florian 1).

In the United States, producers of organic farm products are required to obtain certification from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). The agency ensures that all the organic foodstuffs sold in the country are safe for human consumption, in addition to regulating the prices charged for the products. However, the Federal Agency is also involved as it is tasked with making sure that the production technique employed by the certified producers suits their category of organic farming (Mattera 3).

Besides, the players barely make a profit due to marketing and development costs, which are accompanied by low sales proceeds. Increased customer base marks the phase due to increased awareness. The grocery store is likely to place more orders with the suppliers to meet the increasing demand.
