As I have researched overtime I have learned that segregated neighborhoods have started in the early 1920s and 30s. It is hard to integrate a society in some cities when the people who live in them are set in their ways. I learned that there is a term called “white flight” which means that as the minority began to move in into neighborhoods white family began to leave. I know that people are set in their ways of different races, but times are changing and there are benefits when it comes to having an integrated society. People have to realize that life will go on and you cannot live your life in denial and showing disrespect to the other minorities. I have always wondered which city is the least integrated city in the United States because you cannot talk about something that is so widely known but yet no one wants to talk about the issue. As I began to research this issue the Huffington Post showed that Detroit Michigan is the least integrated city in the US and Priceonomics showed that collectively that Oakland California is the most integrated city. When the data showed me this result I began to look at the why factor and how come these two cities could be so different. These two cities are more that 2,000 miles away from each other and their population being just 250,000 people different. I will have to say that I agree that having the money to live in certain neighborhoods and being able to provide for yourself will take effort. Living in Detroit Michigan can range from $1,251 to $562 and living in Oakland California can range from $3,117 to $1,638. This can be part of a reason why people of different nationalities don’t live close to each other. You would think that Detroit would be more integrated because the cost of living is cheaper but that is not the case. Living in cites where jobs may help to live in their neighborhoods. I believe that living within your means in a city will determine how well you do in that city. I believe that having jobs that pay you well enough you would be able to provide for yourself or your family. Some times the cost of travel will play a part in the decision of living in a city. Depending on what job you have depicts on how established you are in that neighborhood.
