Standardize Testing
Where is our nation headed as our future generations prepare to take over and lead our nation? Is our nation graduating students that are well equipped to lead our nation into a successful future? It has been proven that student performance and higher grades can dramatically increase the economic growth of a nation. Have the changes put in place by Washington, been a benefit to solving our countries education system decline? No: it has not! Standardize Testing in schools have created more dropouts, and held our accelerated children back, while schools compete for more government money.
Testing became a hot topic after the 1983 “Nation at Risk” report was released during the Reagan administration. Through this report it became evident that the decline of quality instruction in America public schools was an issue. This report was based part on poor performance on international comparison, and declining scores SAT scores from 1963 to 1980 (Mehta, 2015). First I would like to propose that it is causing more students to drop out of school. Per the Statistic Brain Research Institute statistics research date of March 17, 2015 the national high school dropout rate is 8.1% compared to 7.1% in 2014” (Statistic). There are many reasons why students drop out of school, however even some of our accelerated students are dropping out because they are bored and do not receive the guidance needed to continual growth. Students also drop out due to pressure of passing test, or not passing test and of fear of failing or looking like a failure. There is overwhelming evidence that shows students retained in a grade at one point or another are more likely to drop out of school.
