Arguments Against Standardized Testing

Albert Einstein once said: “What is tested does count, but much of what counts cannot be tested.” A child's efficiency should not be determined by the value of a test. Change needs to take place and a difference needs to happen within our education system in order for more students to transcend and succeed. So many different organizations have tried to tackle this problem due to the harm it has caused our youth. Yet, thus far standardized testing still remains a factor in the school systems (NJ.Gov, 2016). Today our children need something more concrete. They need something that will excite and motivate them to believe in the education system again.

They are being socially promoted, graduating from high school, and entering college academically unprepared. In sequence, college graduates are entering the workforce unprepared because of their lack of preparation from high school. In a recent study by Scott Jasachik, he points out the difference in opinions about the readiness and competence of an incoming worker between students and employers (Jaschik, 2015). Students have declared that their degree program has well-prepared them for the workforce. However, employers are quick to disagree. A majority of employers are saying that incoming students are not equipped nor ready for the job. This is the opportunity for our organization to equip students for success in the workforce. To replace Standardized testing, we are lobbying for a per capita method where schools will receive funding based on the amount of students they presently have. This will help create an equal playing field for public schools across the nation.

Furthermore, our organization will be funded by the government, donations from communities, corporation, and also partner with local colleges not only to gain funds, but academic resources as well. These fundings will go towards: training mentors to prepare students from K-12 to assess standardize tests; provide creative development trips to colleges and organizations; to lobby against NCLB act by replacing standardize tests with a per capita method.

Students need to know that their academic is not primary based on these tests. Numbers cannot define a student’s intelligence and it is our goal to emphasize that message. It is essential that these students enhance their skills and be prepared to tackle standardized tests with no issue. By virtue of BFL, we believe providing opportunities to assist students will increase test results throughout many schools.
