Parents, guardians, anyone that has a student in their household, there is something important you need to know. There is an problem in our education system. A problem that has been spoken about many times this past decade, but it seems no one from the Department of Education is listening. Today’s schools are overtesting, unnecessarily, and it’s affecting students learning and health. Testing is used to assess a student’s learning and understanding of materials taught at schools. It is created to help students and teachers, but too much of anything is bad and testing also falls into that category. Too much testing can cause a negative reflection on the students' education and health. A study by the Council of the Great City Schools study found that an average student takes 112 mandated standardized assessments between pre-kindergarten classes and 12th grade (Leyton). This doesn’t even include the many unit tests the students have to over the school year. So many tests overlap one subject, resulting the students taking multiple tests over the same subject.
