Argument Essay Would you do whatever it takes to keep your children safe? Putting them in a car seat and putting their seatbelt on, as well as using baby gates and cabinet locks are all great ways to insure the safety of your children. But did you know that according to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, “one of the best ways to protect your children is to make sure they have all of their vaccinations”? Vaccinating our children protects them from many diseases that could harm or possibly kill them, and I believe that we need to mandate vaccinations for all children. Deadly diseases including measles, polio, whooping cough, rubella, chickenpox, meningitis, and more can be prevented by a simple injection. The CDC believes “more than 732,000 children’s lives have been saved in the past 20 years due to routine vaccinations.” In addition, the side effects of vaccines are almost always mild. While some vaccines have little to no side effects, a few common things your child could experience include a “low-grade fever, fussiness and soreness at the injection site” and some vaccines can cause a “temporary headache, fatigue, or loss of appetite” according to Mayo Clinic. According to Mayo Clinic, “a natural infection might provide better immunity than vaccination-but there are some serious risks.” Natural infections might give you immunity to the disease, but it could leave your child with much worse problems such as pneumonia, paralysis, deafness, and permanent brain damage. Public Health.org gives the example of natural immunity to measles, which has a “1 in 500 chance of death” compared to the number of people who have severe allergic reactions from the vaccine, which is “less than one-in-one million.” The risks of natural immunity are not worth the slightly stronger immunity than you would get from a
