Shannaz Rahaman Duston Mason Philosophy 1301 December 4, 2014 Legalizing Drugs The most recent argument I have seen and heard over the news and social media is debate on whether or not drugs should be legalized. There are many continuous arguments over which drugs should be legalized and which ones should be restricted. Drug legalization is really only being considered because state governments have been facing enormous fiscal deficits and would use the legalization of drugs as a way to alleviate those debts. Personally I am for legalizing drugs but I am also for the regulation of drugs and I mean all drugs. I feel as though if drugs were legalized and regulated we would have such a problem with suicides, accidental drug poisoning and mental disorders stemming from drug use. Asa Hutchinson, argued that having drugs readily available to anyone scared him and all he would want to do is stop it. The easy availability of drugs would only create a new set of customers rather than saving current ones. He also mentions his kids and states that legalizing drugs would send a horrible message to children that drug use is acceptable and it is okay to do them. It is estimated that 2.3 million American are in jail or they are in prison and roughly half of them are convicted of drug use or drug possession. America has created an entire nation of warring gangs and rivals by making the use and possessions of drugs illegal. The opposing side to the legalization of drugs argue that legalizing drugs will take more lives than it already has, which in the eyes of many people is the opposite of what we think. As of today, non-prescribed drugs are illegal and because of the government's doing it has caused a countless number of lives to be lost due to the battle for control of the illegal drug
