Chapter Five is titled “Our Application of Landpower” of Army Doctrine Reference Publication (ADRP) 1, The Army Profession, is the most important chapter of ADRP 1 because it covers “Our Application of Landpower” (ADRP 1, 2015). Applying landpower is important for Army Officer because it is the primary purpose of the Army and Captains are involved. The other six of seven chapters cover subjects that an every Soldier must possess and should be part of their service in the Army.

There are four parts to the first task, “develop expert knowledge” this: Military-technical knowledge, moral-ethical knowledge, political-cultural knowledge, and leader-human development knowledge. (ADRP 1, 2015) These four items are very important to a company grade because of there role in the army. In the Army, captains must have military-technical knowledge they work mostly at the company and battalion and must direct many different functions that require knowledge about systems and equipment management. To lead Solders, captains must have technical knowledge so they have credibility among the formation that they know how to lead. Landpower is often lethal according to ADRP 1; therefore, as Army leaders, captains must posses an ethical framework so they can correctly apply this effect. An Army captains “… interact outside the Army, particularly with unified action partners and civilian populations…”, this is another reason that chapter five is the most important chapter in ADRP 1. Next is the second army task, “apply military expertise”, and the Army accomplished this by “applying the principles of mission command”, according to ADRP 1, captains should be expected to use their military expertise every day and this makes science for them to be expected to possess this skill or factor. In ADRP 1, it explained that “Army professionals repetitively make discretionary judgements…” and this is important for Captains because the will be in the position to make decisions and judgement on a daily basis. The third task. Certifying Army Professionals applies directly to being a captain because it is a level of rank that works with NCOs and Soldiers every day. ADRP 1, states “Certification is verification and validation of an Army professional’s character, competence, and commitment to fulfill responsibilities and successfully perform assigned duty with discipline and to standard.”
This statement explains the official way that the Army needs to verify that a person is ready to be a certain rank. Also ADRP 1 stated that there are two purposes for certification, one to the American people that the Army is qualified to perform its work and second, to verify that a given person is qualified to perform their
