Looking back on this past year, my first year as a college student, it is amazing to see how much I have grown through my academic and personal life. I knew accepting admission at the University of Illinois for a mechanical engineering degree would mean that my schooling would be a bit more competitive and stressful, however, I am glad that I did it because my experiences here have been like no other. As I mentioned in my other essay, my goal is to receive an education that will allow me to get a job where I can positively impact the world. With my experiences from the past year in academia, I feel that I have learned how I can do just that. Since being enrolled in college I have been able to maintain a grade point average of a 3.4 or better for the two semesters that I have attended. Through the ups and downs that came with each semester, I have learned the value of putting in hard work and what it takes to achieve something one desires. Additionally, my academic performance has earned me spots in both the Alpha Lambda Delta National Honor Society and the Phi Eta Sigma National Honor Society. Furthermore, this summer I was able to intern with a pipeline design company, EN Engineering. This was a significant experience for me as it opened up my mind to the possibilities that engineers have to create a better world for everyone. Undeniably, my academic performance thus far adds to the merit of me earning this scholarship. With my receipt of this scholarship, the ASME Chicago Section could take pride in knowing that it would be put to good use.
