This incident occurred on Schofield Barracks Hawaii. My former spouse abused the military system to work to her benefit. She repeatedly contacted the chain of command or the Schofield Barracks Military Police whenever she felt the need to have the joint residence to herself. Enacted policy at the time required the chain of command to remove any soldier who was experiencing any marital tension when the situation could have escalated. I did not assault my ex-wife, however I did stop her from striking me. The MP’s were required to remove me from the residence, but I was never read any rights, handcuffed, or informed that I was being arrested.

In 2008, I went to the home I shared with my ex-wife to move some of my personal belongings from the residence. When I arrived at the residence, she began punching, slapping, kicking, scratching, biting, and spitting. After I loaded the majority of the items in my vehicle, I went into the house to secure my computer. She became irate and struck me with an iron statue. She tried to run and slam the door as I was going out and ran into the door. I never struck her during this altercation either. When law enforcement arrived, they interrogated both of us. Both of us were arrested for the same charge which were eventually dismissed.

Coming from a divorced household, I knew the implications this would have for my children and I wanted to prevent them from enduring the same experiences I did as a child. I had dinner and drinks with coworkers and made the decision to move my vehicle a mile to a friend’s apartment. The charges were eventually dismissed.
