Throughout time, people have used religion to answer life’s most difficult questions. The answers are rarely simple although they offer explanations that are appropriately difficult because they involve dilemmas that cannot be resolved once and for all. The Bhagavad-Gītā delves into the relationship between the god Visnu the Preserver and Arjuna the third Pāndava. While explaining to Arjuna the path he should walk, Visnu demonstrates his position of confidant, counselor, and God in regards to Arjuna. According to Merriam-Webster Dictionary, a confidant is a trusted friend you can talk to about personal and private things. As a person of power, Arjuna cannot be seen as someone weak. When Arjuna first addresses Krishna, he calls him his appropriate titles; “Lord of the Earth, Unshaken One,” (Bhagavad- Gītā 1285). Throughout the work, Arjuna addresses Krishna with multiple names of respect: O Handsome-Haired One, O Supreme Lord, O One of Lotus-Petal-Eyes, O Supreme Spirit, O Power-Without-Equal, and O Agitator of Mankind. The titles are said in respect of the power and authority that Visnu holds. Krishna’s power is so great that Arjuna cries for mercy when Krishan reveals his true nature. Sanjaya describes the otherworldly visage of Krishna as, “That form has many eyes and mouths, and many wonders visible, with many sacred ornaments and many weapons raised. Clothed in sacred wreaths and garments, with many sacred fragrances,”(Bhagavad- Gītā 1299). The multiple eyes to see all things and mouths to speak to all his followers.
