Assignment 1 – Person-In-Environment Paper Meeting the needs of minority groups describes a difficult understanding of behavioral theories and practices. These groups present many cultural challenges that one has to identify while working with such populations. The crossing of identities across racial lines presents unique challenges for Social Workers when applying behavior theories to assessment, treatment, and interventions. This socio-ecological theory explains the view of a person within their environment (Robbins & Chatterjee, 2012, p. 32). The adaptation of this theory relates to how the individual corresponds to their environment and technologies (Robbins & Chatterjee, 2012, p. 32). In the case, Charlie first starts with a good life transition within his childhood when he was living with his mother, Eloise before she had her daughter Pearl. But because of the external stressors that Charlie faces because of her separation with her mom causing delayed development for Charlie. Charlie was separated from his mother because of her recurrent depressive episodes that have created an external stressor for Charlie while living with him mother and stepfather. So they believed that living with Charlie’s aunt, Eleanor would lessen the stress that Charlie faces. Charlie was struggling with fitting with his environment at school. The separation has caused him to decrease in his social skills and ability to build relationships with his peers. All of the challenges with family dysfunction caused insufficient, excessive, or missing adaptive balance because the fit between the person and environment is broken down (Robbins & Chatterjee, 2012, p. 33). Sometimes, problems arise when overusing certain theories to analyze a situation. With dynamic systems theory, it can be a good system to understand the system that influences Charlie as a whole. It helps us understand the interaction between different systems and groups that from individuals to larger social systems. It can help social workers understand the macro, mezzo, and micro understanding of the situation at hand. In addition, dynamic systems theory helps social workers understand the interrelatedness of systems and concepts within the case. On the other hand, one of the limitations that Anita Kihlstrom states that system theory presupposes that the ideas of ethnic and morality do not consider within this model (Kihlstrom, 2011, p. 292). With the lack of ethic or moral consideration, systems theory accepts the unethical and immoral considerations that clients might provide in the situation with Charlie. They will have to consider answers that provide an accurate understanding of ethical and moral standards for best intervention methods that will benefit Charlie’s
