Assignment 2 – The Arts Journey
Why is art important you might ask? Because it’s part of our humanity. The arts allow us to explore and celebrate diversity of human expression. Unlike predictable science discoveries, we are forever engaged in the world and ourselves. Whether you are a painter or performer, art pierces your mind with colour. And these colours are your imagination. They’re what make life worth living.
Gambis (2015) stated that art provides three things: a vehicle for mediation and self-connection, a feeling of freedom, allows true self-expression and helps in becoming centered within life. As humans, we struggle to delegate time to ourselves and chances are we are more self-aware of those around us than ourselves. Art therapy, …show more content…

This hands-on approach of paper folding provides students with the opportunity to learn multiple skills, for example, motor control development, visual memory, ability to follow directions and spatial perception. While doing so, the student’s patience, concentration and attention to detail also improve (New World Encyclopaedia, 2015). Shalev (2013) explains that there “is a continuous interaction of the action and thought process” (para.5). When a child is given a blank piece of paper, they have an urge to draw on it, but rarely does the child use the paper itself as a creative medium. The child learns through listening, seeing, observing and touching, which gives the opportunity for the individual’s cognitive skills to be improved in an enjoyable and exciting activity (Shalev, …show more content…

Working with colours and three-dimensional objects, further heightens children’s awareness of perspective and artistic sensitivity.
