The assessment task in the unit plan states that students develop a visual representation to reflect on "their learning to choose a special place of importance to them"(BOSTES, 2016, p.4). The assessment task in the unit plan in terms of multimodality; can be improved by the inclusion of using a digital text including all semiotic systems into the activity.
Students would instead KidPix to create a digital text, reflecting on a special place of importance to them. Students develop a visual representation of a special place of importance to them including what this place is like, why it special to them, and how they and others care for this special place (BOSTES. 2016, p.4).
KidPix is a program which is easy and fun for young children to use (The Software MacKiev Company, 2016). There are various drawing tools, backgrounds and images available for students to explore and play with (Van Horn, 2004). Children could write a short reflection on their learning after the KidPix 3D presentation of students special place. Give feedback to each other after presentations, reflect on layout of presentation, meet purpose, construction. Today there is much more information available from many sources, children must be taught to access this information critically (Vasquez, Felderman, Branigan, 2012) .
