In taming of the shrew the movie was rendered by the play which was influenced by ideologies, values and attitudes of society. The main themes that were represented in taming of the shrew was man liberating a women through love, gender inequality, money and dowry, power and control, masculinity and femininity. Taming of the shrew had numerous examples of power and control against women. The first example of this is when Petruchio is often seen as demanding Katharina and is much more dominant towards her. Petruchio uses mockery and disrespect to Katharina to make her weak, that is how he shows power and control in the movie. The first instance when Petruchio does this is on the day of the wedding when he arrives hours late and then wears clothes that look like a clown, trying to make a fool of Katharina who looks very ladylike and the first example of being tamed and fitting into society's expectations. Along with this example whilst at the wedding he is seen countless time falling asleep while the vows were being done saying yes to marrying her, showing that he doesn't care and it's boring him.
