“Mankind invented the atomic bomb, but no mouse would ever construct a mousetrap.” Harry S. Truman was responsible for making the call to drop the atomic bomb on the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki which killed more than 100,000 people in the impact. This event led many people to the same question: Did Truman Make The Right Decision? Even though this happened many decades ago, that decision could end with the human race. The development of the atomic bombs wasn’t the problem but the effect of it creating a nuclear race between nations, as we can see in the statistics in Document A. More than 100,000 people were killed in the impact over the years. Also stated in Document D “Unless an effective international control of nuclear explosives is instituted, a race of nuclear armaments is certain to ensue following the first revelation of our possession of nuclear weapons to the world.” This demonstrates the mortal potential of the bomb which killed a large number of people in just seconds, and how the recognition of the power of the weapon could be crucial if we do not take limiting measures worldwide. …show more content…
