Atomic Bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki WWII was a time of tragedy, fear, and loss. An important event that happened during WWII was the atomic bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. August 6, 1945, was when an American B-29 bomber dropped the first deadliest bomb in the world over the city of Hiroshima. 90% of the city was destroyed including an estimate of 80,000 people. Three days later, another bomb dropped on the city of Nagasaki killing an additional 40,000 people. Japan’s emperor had no choice but to unconditionally surrender to WWII (History 1). Truman’s targets were the cities of Hiroshima, Kokura, and Nagasaki(About 3). The Potsdam Declaration threatened Japan destruction if they refused to surrender(Atom Central 2). Both bombs were made up of more than 40 million tons of TNT and more than 235 tons of uranium (Atom Central 2). When the bombs exploded, it did more damage after as well. When both bombs dropped, it was like a cloud machine covering up to 90,000 ft. of cloud puff into the sky and covered all of the cities. Flash burns were a result of when people were near the explosion, the bombs burned homes and burst into flames, flying debris caused injury to anything and everything in its way. People’s eyeballs burned out and black holes replaced where the eye sockets were suppose to be, blackened skin all over people’s bodies, hair synged off, and ect (About 4). Also, 10 million degrees of heat were created which distributed throughout the air and land. Radioactive particles penetrate bones and kill people instantly when the radiation is too high. This characteristic the bombs had made them even deadlier. Many cancers grabbed a hold of most people like blood bone marrow, spleen, and lymph nodes.
