Pearl Harbor is a U.S. naval base located on the island of Oahu, Hawaii. On December 7, 1941, the base was attacked by the Imperial Japanese Navy, marking the entry of the United States into World War II. The attack resulted in the deaths of 2,403 Americans and the destruction of numerous ships and aircraft. The attack on Pearl Harbor is considered a turning point in American history, as it led to the United States entering the war and ultimately achieving victory.

The attack force consisted of six aircraft carriers, two battleships, three cruisers, and a number of destroyers and submarines. The attack was launched at dawn, with the first wave of Japanese planes hitting the base at 7:55 a.m. local time.

The attack on Pearl Harbor was devastating. The Japanese planes targeted the battleships and aircraft on the base, causing significant damage. The USS Arizona was hit by a bomb and exploded, killing 1,177 sailors and Marines. Other ships, including the USS Oklahoma and the USS Utah, were also sunk. In addition, numerous aircraft were destroyed on the ground, and a number of other ships were damaged.

The attack on Pearl Harbor was a shock to the American people. President Franklin D. Roosevelt addressed the nation the following day, calling December 7, 1941, “a date which will live in infamy.” The United States declared war on Japan, and soon after, Germany and Italy declared war on the United States.
