After reading Maya Angelou’s quote, I realized there are still many things I have to learn about life. This quote made me think about how many things go unappreciated everyday, and how we should be thankful for these things. It also inspires me to work harder so that I can reach my goals in life. I need to learn this so that I can become a more appreciative and thankful person towards my family and friends.

I really didn’t think about going to college until I was in my senior year. And when I made of up my mind that I wanted to go to college, I had to figure out how I was going to get there. Of course my first step was to ask my parents if I could go. I am not sure why I had to ask them about school, because throughout my school years they were not concerned about my status nor did they expect me to finish high school.
I was the first in my family to graduate high school and the first to move on to a post secondary school. However, she was so much more than just a writer to not only myself but to so many others around the world who she inspired with her controversial poetry, mesmerizing autobiographies, and impeccable charm. This is why if I could meet any person in the world and hold a 30-minute conversation with them, it would be with her. I immediately knew that in order to survive and be successful in this country, I would have to start college. Seeing my dad working hard as an electrical technician I always wanted to be an electrical engineer. With my husband support and encouragement I started my college. Upon my arrival to The United State of America my husband was working in small company and the money he was earning was not good enough to support our entire family. Even then I started my semester with his savings, but I knew I would have to do something in order to support him and my educational needs.
College means alot to me and my family because my family's generation did not go to school because they had to stay home and help my grandparents. It's mostly important to me because my parents doubt me a lot that i won't make it far because the school only tells the the bad part of my attendance not the good part. It also means alot to us because not very many people in my family go to college so it makes us as a family proud of my success. Also for me it means i get to have a higher chance in my career i am planning to overcome. It will also pay off at the end so i can support and help my parents out of poverty.
Overall, I wish to attend college to better all aspects of my life. I desire to maximize my potential and work ethic to become better. Being a first generation student will not be easy, for I have no one to tell me about experiences. I am very proud and honored to tell people that I am in college.
The reason I chose criminal justice as my major in college is, because when I was a kid I always wanted to solve crimes be an Investigator. Which led me into to the criminal justice field of study. I did not pursue a college education in til I was 26 year of age because I felt as if I was not ready for that challenge of a full time job and an full time student. Which resulted in me not going to school till my mid 20. I want to lay the foundation down for my family to grow and to let everyone know that i am the standard and our family that's where my motivation comes from.
To start off with, what three things initially motivated me to start college? Hmm. I have many reasons on why I chose to start college, but the three most important reasons involve my son, fiance and a feeling of self fulfillment. My son is the most important thing in the world to me and I want him to see the importance of higher education and how much of an impact it has on our careers
My intrinsic motivation for attending college is the challenge that comes with being in school. It is challenging to not only pass tests and get good grades, but to also go to class and learn the material. For me, the challenge is self-fulfilling. It makes me feel good inside when I receive a good final grade. It makes me proud to make my family proud.
I focused on placing above average on standardized tests and perfecting my school assignments. At my job, I first started as a dishboy and busboy until I was promoted to become a barback. Now that I am eighteen I can fulfill bartender duties, a job I hope to continue while in college. The success I have in my job provides me with money to save for the future, while my academic success gives me the ability to earn a cheaper tuition. I have taken action to prep for college by making the most of the opportunities out there.
