General Purpose: to inform
Specific Purpose: to inform my audience about the effects media violence have on young adults
Introduction
I. Attention Getter: I know at least half or most of you in here has played the game Grand Theft Auto or saw Resident Evil but who would’ve thought the media would have a major impact on our life.
II. Thesis Statement: My speech is to be focused on the effects media violence has on children, teens, and young adults.
III. Relevancy Statement: My topic is relevant to us and the world because more and more crimes, murders and accidents is happening via media violence. Our lives are at stake, as well as the next generation.

Media violence has a major impact on our current generation and has been researched and discussed. A. The use of media, in general, is being used every day and more of our young generation is getting involved in media, whether it’s of movies or on cellphones. 1. In the 2009 article, Media Violence: Council on Communications and Media, in 1972, the U.S. Surgeon General released a special report on health effects of media violence based on a unanimous body of evidence. 2. In the same article, the National Institute of Mental Health issued a comprehensive review of research on media violence and its effects on children’s psychological health.
B. Media has a major impact on adolescents and children. It can lead for them to act dangerously and have them influenced psychologically, behaviorally, and physically. 1. According to an article by Eugene V. Beresin, the Impact of Media Violence on Children and Adolescents, violence is not new to humanity. In fact, it is an increasing problem in society today. 2. In this same article, research has shown that both physical and verbal aggression rates have drastically increased since the introduction of television. This can have a huge negative impact on adolescents and children’s mindset. 1. In an article made by Chhandita Chakracarty on January 6, 2017, 11 Positive and Negative Influences of Media on Teenagers, many teenagers play video games and watch movies that impact them negatively. This can make violence and aggressive behavior normal to adolescents. 2. In another article, the Impact of Media—Good, Bad, or Somewhere In Between, recent studies show that people who use Facebook heavily may find a decrease in their self-confidence or well-being over time. This shows that not only television and video games have a negative impact on teenagers, but also social media. B.
