The perception of Atticus changes. The kids originally think Atticus is to old to do much. They say that because when Jem wants to play football Atticus will say no I’m to old. When Jem wanted to play tackle football he would say he was to old for that also. Atticus was fifty years old so he can’t do much. Atticus was kind of lazy. He did not go hunting for hunting season, he did not play poker with any of his friends, he did not even go fishing, but he did sit in the living room and watch television all day. Atticus cannot do much. Scout says he cannot do anything, because he will not play tackle football or football in general. Atticus sits at home and reads. There was mad dog in town Calpurnia called Atticus to come home. Atticus was home and Mr. Tate handed Atticus a rifle. He walked quickly like an underwater swimmer Jem said. Atticus took two steps forward put they rifle to his shoulder and shot. Mr. Tate walked up to the dog and said you were a little to the right, Atticus said I always was. Jem was paralyzed. Atticus hit the dog with one shot. Miss Maudie looked at Scout and said do u “still think your dad can’t do anything? Are you still ashamed of him?” Scout said nope. Miss Maudie said Atticus was the deadest shot in Maycomb County. Jem was surprised. Maybe there’s more about Atticus that they do not know about. Scout and Jem think there’s so much more to Atticus. They just don’t know about it because; Atticus does not like to brag about what he does and cannot do. Atticus does not like to impress people. He’s not like Aunt Alexander, how she likes to brag about everything. Atticus likes to keep it to himself. Finally Jem was embarrassed to be like his dad, but that has all changed. Jem did not know much about his dad he thought he was old and could not do anything. He thought his dad was no fun, now he thinks something way
