This caused a whole lot of controversy but Atticus had to seek justice in this case because he always fights for what is right and he knew that it wasn’t fair the way everyone treated him. Knowing in this time period defending an African American man could totally ruin his reputation he chooses to do so anyway. This just shows how noble and brave Atticus really is.

Atticus is a hero because he never backs down from doing what's right, He defends and stands up for Tom Robinson, and finally he teaches his kids lesson that they will use for the rest of their life. My first reason that Atticus is a hero is that he never backs down from doing what's right. For example Atticus says "Come here...
In the book To Kill a Mockingbird there are many different types of people. Including people that show courage, boldness, growing up, also people who were killed trying to get out of prison which they shouldn’t even have been there and were only there because a little girl could not tell the TRUTH, and other people that show intelligence. We are going to be talking about one of the people that showed courage Atticus Finch. Now see Atticus Finch was a good man who although got criticised openly he was actually well respected in the town of maycomb. Now you see he was criticised because he was trying to free a man from going to prison for something he did not do.
Maycomb County, located about 20 miles away from Finch landing. The place that the Finch’s receive their social class status from of being higher and more elite than most. Social class and racism back in the early 1900’s caused many to become snobs, not all, but many. The work as a whole is shown thoroughly through the character of Atticus Finch, a model of integrity to lawyers all over, all in favor to the surroundings he grew up in around the early 1930’s, which ultimately shaped his morals traits as a racial hero in Harper Lee’s novel. Years after the Civil War ended and slavery in the United States was over, racism was still looming large over the country, especially in the South where American’s highly supported slavery.
The reason why Atticus defended a black man and did what most everyone would never think of doing is because of justice and civilly going against the norm. The character, a lawyer named Atticus, also endangers not only his own life but his family's, by defending a Negro. He believes he is protecting an innocent man. Even though he is black.

The two kids with their friend Dill become really interested in the neighborhood "spook," a man named "Boo", really Arthur, Radley who appears never to leave his house. The children half-believe the silly tales that Boo haunts the neighborhood at night, feeding on squirrels, etc.
In the novel, “To Kill a Mockingbird,” Atticus Finch is a well reserved, honored, and honest man ;by contrast, Bob Ewell is a racist, cantankerous, and evil man. Atticus Finch once said, “I wanted you to see what real courage is, instead of getting the idea that courage is a man with a gun in his hand.” At the beginning of the scene, both Scout and Jem are walking to the school; Scout is playing the ham in her school’s Halloween pageant. While walking to the school pageant, Scout and Jem are startled by their fellow friend known as Cecil Jacobs;however, this only foreshadows the following events of the chapter. Bob Ewell wishes to gain revenge upon Atticus Finch, for he was the man that exposed his devious plans he had with taking advantage
Despite racial inequalities in the South, Atticus sticks to his own morals and agrees to be the defending lawyer for Tom Robinson, a black man being accused of raping a white woman. Although Atticus’ defense in court was thorough and clearly proved Tom’s innocence, the jury was prejudiced towards black folks and convicted Tom as guilty. Nonetheless, Atticus is still a hero despite losing the case. He has the courage to stand up for what he believes in, fights with reason rather than guns, and has utmost determination, making him a hero despite being just an average human being. Ultimately, his thoughts and actions set the stage for major changes in the meaning of equality throughout Maycomb County, changing lives of numerous people.
Who is Atticus: By Asa Forest To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee takes place in the 1930’s in the small country town of Maycomb Alabama. One of the main protagonists Atticus Finch was a single father to Jem and Jean (called Scout) Finch. Atticus was a profound lawyer who is known around the town for his status in law. Atticus, like most people also has flaws like not showing his emotions towards anyone in the town or anyone at all. Although Atticus demonstrated a higher degree of racial tolerance and fearlessness, he is in fact, a flawed character who is in fact feeble and unable to be a normal father.
In conclusion, I do not think that you can consider Atticus Finch a heroic character. I say this with respect to Go Set a Watchman by Harper Lee, it really gave me a true insight on who Atticus Finch actually was from the perspective of the person who created the character. Although He tried to get the people of the town of Maycomb to open their minds to accepting everyone no matter the race, creed and gender and to open their eyes to seeing that the way are living is very chauvinistic, bigoted and flat out prejudiced. Atticus also embraced equality and freedom when no one else would, he strayed away from the social norms of the Southern United States, regardless of the consequences he knew he would eventually succumb to. Even with all of this
The people in Atticus’s community believe Tom is guilty because he is black. Atticus Finch chooses to defend Tom Robinson, because of his beliefs and he wants to set a good example for his children, despite not having any support from his community,
