In the book To kill a Mockingbird there are 3 main characters who represents courage.
In the book To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, Atticus Finch shows and gives courage to others when in need. First, Atticus shoots Tim Johnson, a dog with rabies, who is ready to charge and saves the town. Although Atticus had a high chance of missing and shooting at the Radley’s house, but he still shoots because he knows that if he misses or backs out, he could get killed along with other several people in town. Second, Atticus shows courage when he goes downtown to the county jail to guard Tom Robinson against the lynch mob. Atticus guards Tom Robinson against the lynch mob because he knows that it is wrong to kidnap people
Courage in To Kill a Mockingbird By Harper Lee’s very definition, “Real courage is when you know you 're licked before you begin, but you begin anyway and see it through no matter what.” Courage comes up so many times in this story throughout almost every single character. The characters that I will be proving the acts of courage in in this essay are Mr. Heck Tate, Mr. Dolphus Raymond, Aunt Alexandra, and Miss Maudie. Theses characters may not show quite as much courage as some of the others but they do help prove what real courage is. Heck Tate is the sheriff of Maycomb County, which means his job is to protect and serve the people of his jurisdiction.
Back in the 1920’s, slavery was just ended and people were still prejudiced and many people despised the black people. In the novel To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee the characters scout, Jem, and Dill show lots of courage. The book is set in Maycomb county, Alabama. The main characters in this book are Dill, Jem, Atticus, Scout, Calpurnia, and Tom Robinson. In this story it is mostly about the trail, the trail is about how Tom Robinson was accused of rape by the Ewell family.
Atticus has been characterised as courageous in "To Kill a Mockingbird" through the use of an allusion and foreshadowing. Courage is the choice and willingness to confront pain, danger or uncertainty, and throughout the novel, Atticus' courage is conveyed through both his words and his actions. During Chapter 9, Jack and Atticus discuss the upcoming trial of Tom Robinson. Meanwhile, Jack expresses concern for Atticus, mentioning an allusion to the Bible, saying, "let this cup pass from you, eh?". This phrase alludes to a scene in the Bible where Jesus prays to God before his crucifixion, asking if it is possible for the suffering of death to be taken away from him, whilst accepting the pain that is to come.

White people of the time would do anything to get people of color in trouble or hurt.

Even though Atticus has different thoughts and disagrees with all most everyone in Maycomb, people still has a great deal of respect for him.
Although criticized openly, Atticus Finch is respected throughout the town of Maycomb. The reason is that Atticus is very Honorable, Humble, and Valiant. He shows all three of these characteristics throughout the book. These specific traits help describe the great man everyone knows and loves. One of the most important traits Atticus Finch has in this story is Valiancy.
Atticus Finch is very courageous and this is evident when he stands up for what he believes in despite the prejudice of other people in Maycomb. Since he goes against the status quo, he gets discriminated against. Other people criticize his actions behind his back, and
Courage can be interpreted in a lot of different ways. To different people, it means different things. Courage’s ‘official’ definition is “The ability to do something that frightens one; strength in the face of pain or grief.” This definition is adequate to some, but others interpret courage as a wide array of other things. Courage could be trying something new, doing what you want regardless of others opinions.
However, the majority of the town’s residence retains their distaste for the man who did no harm outside of not conforming to their standards of “normal.” Even those who refuse to uphold the time’s biases were looked down upon. For example, Atticus Finch, Scout’s father, becomes an outcast to much of Maycomb, despite the fact that he is a white man with a good family history who in most ways behaves completely ordinarily, simply because he is the lawyer who defends Tom Robinson. By taking Robinson’s case, he condemns himself and his family to threats, harassment and slander.
