There are different types of courage you could be getting over something or even just saying something it still shows courage.
The book To kill a mockingbird the author is Harper Lee, it's about this family and what this family goes through,
Atticus explains the idea of courage to his children. He says ,”It’s when you know you’re licked before you begin buy you begin anyway and you see it through no matter what. You rarely win, but sometimes you do.”(pg.128)
This tells you that Atticus is talking about an old lady who is a morphine addict. She has the courage to die sober, without the drugs she had depended on for so long. It is a very different type of courage than a man with a gun.
Jem shows courage To kill a mockingbird because Atticus tell Jem to hold his head high and e a gentleman and not let her get you mad when Jem first talked to Mrs.Dubose she was mean and Jem was getting mad but after a while he got courage and he didn’t let her get to him. …show more content…

“Jems would come up, and he would gaze at Mrs.Dubose with a face devoid of resentment. Through the weeks he had cultivated an expression of polite and detached interest, which he would present to her in answer to her most blood-curdling inventions.”
Jem showed courage by talking to her and after a while Jem got used to Mrs.Dubose and he showed respect and politeness just like Atticus told him to do.
Atticus told him to be polite and to be good he at first was not polite and let whatever she said get to him but he was a gentleman
