Atticus was nowhere to be found. He was not at his office. None of the light were on. Everything seemed quiet and dim. Maycomb at night felt like a ghost town. Scout,Dill and I then saw a light near the jailhouse. Usually there ain’t one there. When we approached the light we saw Atticus sittin’ in a chair with a soft expression while reading a book. Atticus was the one that had the light.. As we came closer to the bushes near the jail house, we heard faint sputtering noises. “Do y’all hear that I whispered.” I whispered.
“ I hear it alright” said Scout.
The sound was as coming from the direction we had come from. We saw some bushes right near the jailhouse, and we all sat behind it. “No one say anything, got that.” I said.

I felt someone grab me by the collar and yank me off my feet. I felt fear rush into me not knowing what was about to happen. “Don’t you touch him!” Screeched Scout.
I heard a slight thud, and I suddenly was dropped. I turned around to look a what happened to the man, and he was grimacing in pain. I had a sense of pride knowing Scout had done such to a grown man. I didn’t show my feelings not wanting to be like a boy. Atticus asked me to go home again but this time I said “ I ain’t going, whether you like it or not Atticus.”
Atticus asked me peacefully, as I was about to say “no” again, Scout asked Mr.Cunningham about his entailment. Scout started to talk to Mr.Cunningham, and I was in awe of what she was doing. If she kept this up, Atticus wouldn’t be bothered again. Scout then said that “Mr.Cunningham entailments are bad. They don’t bring no good.”
This seemed to ease Mr.Cunningham. After a bit more talking from Scout the Cunningham mob slowly got back in the cars, slammed the doors and started their cars up. The cars sputtered alive and all of em’ drove away. It was once again quite like it had been when we first saw Atticus. Atticus whispered something to Tom Robinson and we were on our way home. A wave of tiredness swept over me. I was now ready to fall asleep knowing Atticus was
