From the famous Hollywood classic to helping saving lives with the United Nations Children’s Fund, UNICEF, Audrey Hepburn transformed many people’s lives and made herself an import woman in world history. Her iconic style and self-importance for helping others will forever shine in our world. Throughout Audrey Hepburn's life, she came from a traumatic past, that she then turned around and helped others. From the beginning of her childhood, Audrey Hepburn faced many challenges. She was born on May 4th, 1929, in Brussels, Belgium, but grew up in Arnhem, Netherlands. When she was only six years old, her father left her and her family for no reason. Her parents settle a legal divorce, and Audrey begs for visitation rights of her father. The rights are given, but not upheld by her father. For Audrey Hepburn, it was one of the most important things in her life. After going to Ethiopia and seeing the effect of the drought and civil strife that had caused a terrible famine, she started talking in the US media about these effects and what needed to be done. She then continued on mission trips across the world, testified before the US Congress, and launched UNICEF’s State of the World’s Children report. UNICEF stands for United Nations Children’s Fund. “As you grow older, you will discover that you have two hands, one for helping yourself, the other for helping others,” is a quote of hers states her opinion on the need for people to help others. After UNICEF she received the US highest civilian award, Presidential Medal of Freedom, battled cancer, and continued to travel with UNICEF to Somalia, Kenya, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, France and the United States. She had won a special Academy Award for her work as a humanitarian work in 1993, but, sadly, she did not live to receive the award.
