James Cameron has depicted many topics we covered this year in his worldwide hit phenomenon, “Avatar”. Since the location he chose to do was the fictional planet of Pandora, his information can turn out to be completely different or irrelevant from Earth’s, however that doesn’t mean there can be some similarities.
Pandora is similar to Earth when it comes to biodiversity. The planet is full of luscious trees and plant life equal or better than our planet’s forests. There indigenous “indians” called the Na’Vi. The movie explains how there are various unique animals outside the excavation site. We see lemurs with six appendages swinging through trees, gigantic hammer-head rhinos in herds, and hyena-esq dog packs named “Viperwolves”. During an expedition in the film, a tiger-like predator called a “Thanator” appears that chases Jake, the protagonist of the movie, through a forest of trees and plants that light up at night. The Irkans are carnivores that eat smaller creatures such as the lemurs, the small Viperwolves, and can even eat the Na’Vi as well. Thanators are capable of eating creatures twice its size such as the “Hammerhead Titanothere” if they are far from their herd. This means we could assume that the Thanator is at the top of the food chain and probably up high in the food web. The Na’Vi are the quasi-equivalent of humans on earth, therefore they have to be
